There are good basic headphones that we have been using for a few years & then the awful fake boom & tizz sounding rubbish that paying EXTRA gives you. But as no-one knows what they are selling today or apparently tried them in the way we do, we type it for you. Many Headphones as with Loudspeakers are Fake Sounding to make cheap items sound better.

MP3 on a mobile is little better than a MW portable radio of old. How you use Headphones matters too: for the best Vintage Hifi or for mobile phone or soundcard headphone amp, the sort of headphone you can use varies.

The difference M20 to M50 is like the 6" bass driver compared to the 12" one & the M20s are in the past.

It won't hide the rough sound of some other amps we tried to better. The Audio-Technica M20s were basic after all, but served us well. Headphones are take it or leave it, no upgradecing possible & we did try. Now we know (again) how totally jumping in a mud puddle the game of buying new Hifi items is. But you'll need to read on as the game of finding Headphones is a totally unknown exercise as no-one knows their products anymore & learning specs can help find ones worth a try it still doesn't mean you'll get the right ones. Thankfully (as of 2013) we've found some Headphones now that we can happily use & continue with our Amp testing. The deal with Headphones is how loud (db) and the voice coil resistance (ohms) affects how natural, loud or false sounding it is. I simply love the sound that this Realistic STA-2500 receiver reproduces and I am stuck on what to do with it and far as repairing it or selling it.Lots of New Sections since Jan 2017 that add a wide range of Hi-Fi & Tech related subjects plus opinion on Hi-Fi News 1970-1980 as we read through. The lower end modern receivers are built primarily for digital signal Home Entertainment A/V systems not for quality analog reproduction. I mean I get it, now that I have had a little time to absorb what happened. I live for that kind of sound man! And I can't believe that a 1985 Receiver with leaky caps and a busted FM tuner can sound better than my newer $300 Yamaha receiver. But one of the most prized characteristics of sound reproduction that I covet that I can't seem to get with my Yamaha receiver is that airy, dimensional sound that makes you feel like you can walk up to and around the musical instruments being played back from a quality analog recording. I can't believe the solidness of the sound stage image and the stereo separation is really good. For this receiver the sound is absolutely great. So I have had a chance to compare very good audio equipment side by side. I have owned Mid to High-end Audio components before and worked at a Audio Specialty store years ago when affordable Mid to Hi-End audio was still good quality.

But what I have been using my receiver for is to amplify the sound from my PC via built in motherboard audio output.

I own vinyl records and have a decent turn table and cassette tape player to use for testing. I have been using a Yamaha RX-V383 surround sound receiver, a pair of Polk Audio T15 bookshelf speakers and a Polk Audio PSW108 Sub Woofer for my daily driver. After hooking it up for the first time I noticed that the left channel for the FM tuner was going in and out but all other source inputs sounded good. There was no obvious damage and it was really clean inside for how old it is. I took off the top cover when I got it home just to see inside if there was any obvious damage and to dust it out if need be.

Found this receiver in a local thrift store for about $30 USD.
